Yeah, without the right spices that ends up being pretty much fat, meat and breading on a stick... but it'll do the trick for a carnivore like me even if it doesn't taste like much of anything.
[Well gee, when you put it like that it sounds disgusting.]
I'm tempted to ask if you knew of any fried chicken places where you're from. There were a couple of chains on Earth that certainly knew their spices, even if eating it all the time was by no means healthy.
Lots of them. KFC used to have decent stuff with its stronger spices, but it was still a little bland to me. I usually had to add some of their dipping sauces to really get flavor into it. But, they did at least put enough black pepper into it to help.
Yeah, I could actually taste KFC. It had to be the original though. The extra crispy wasn't that good. Lots of extra spices. It's pretty mild, but not bad. Too bad I don't know the recipe.
Hehe, don't tempt them. They might drag him here just to make us some decent food. [She laughed softly to herself, getting the spices together and blending the dry into a nice mix. She was going to err on what she considered the 'mild side.' It would probably still be strong, but better than the bland they had here.]
Yeah, and I'd like to think I'm actually pretty good at this sort of thing, even if my tastes are a little ... let's just call them eccentric. Too hard to find the good stuff these days, though, so it's nice and normal for me today.
[Jane hums and nods.] It might be difficult to find good things for quite a while after everything's back to normal. I don't know, I've never been in a war situation before...but it seems like that might be the case.
It is. I've been ... well, not on the front lines, but I've been in places where you had to be spare with the supplies. Jerky comes in handy in a pinch. It really does.
I remember seeing the asteroid... yeah, I'd say something like that. It's certainly close enough to compare at the very least. Those memories sort of stick with you a bit.
I believe you. There's memories I'd like to forget. A lot. The Asteroid, though, got stuck because of some weird dream Freya gave me. It's hard to forget those things.
She went insane when Freyr died and plagued everyone with intense nightmares where we saw all the worst things in each other's lives. I saw all kinds of bloody deaths with the trolls and things like that, the asteroid. It was awful.
[Jane frowns and shivers.] I wouldn't want to see the awful things that happened to other people...but obviously you had no choice, if that's how it happened.
...I don't think I knew that Mister Freyr died at any point, either.
It was a while ago. Back before you were here, during the first big siege. We had to help bring him back or she would have stayed crazy like that. [She grunted.] It was just as bad, though, with people seeing some of my memories.
I was in the city of the dwarves at the time. They went to rescue his soul from where Thiazi imprisoned it. When the soul was back in the gods' hands, the took care of the resurrection. I ... had other things I was doing at the time, but it was good to save him.
Magic. Magic that's very dark in my world, and I suspect very dark in this world too. Corrupt, dire spells of necromantic energies that damage the soul of the one casting them as much as they do imprison the victim.
Yeah... Thiazi's done a few things that pretty much destroyed her rep with me. This is just one of them... but honestly if you want to know how I know about all this...
It's what my dad did to my mom and I for a long time.

Those were the ones I was thinking of, actually!

[Oh now she's giggling. Like that would ever happen.]

Oh, I don't think they'd go that far! There are much more important things to do, and we can make decent food ourselves.

How does one even imprison a soul? From my understanding, they happen to be...relatively intangible.

Helps to be an evil monster.

[So it's a magic thing - i.e., it won't make a lick of sense. Jane stores that bit of knowledge away for later.]
