The Fletcher Gym Leader: Jane Crocker Reward: The Cluedo Badge
THE FLETCHER GYM
HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8am to 6pm
Tuesday and Thursday: In the field, but could be at the gym any time between 9am to 4pm
You'll be informed if she's in or not, and can leave a challenge request card at the front desk - she'll call you when she gets back so you can get started.
The gym itself is repurposed from an old warehouse, but it looks more to be like a small townhouse (shutters would be blue and not red for the record) that's been built "next" to the warehouse, which serves as an entrance. The foyer is more like a cozy lobby, in which a gym trainer will welcome visitors. Since Jane's gym operates as both a gym and a base of operations for her PI business, visitors will indicate which they are here for. Potential clients will be brought upstairs to Jane's office on the second floor without any fuss, and she will come to meet them and discuss what it is they need help with. Please note she has various framed novelty prints (source) on the walls, making for rather friendly atmosphere.
Challengers do not have it so easy!
The front desk trainer will lead a challenger to a parlor and instructed that they have fifteen minutes to figure out how to get out of this room and into the next before they will be offered advancement via trainer battle. Trainers must find one of several different solutions to the room's puzzle to advance through five more rooms, each connected by long hallways and built into the old warehouse to allow for more mobility and larger rooms to battle in. While there are different solutions to each puzzle, the rooms will always be the same: a parlor (as linked above), a kitchen, dining room, a study, a recreation room, and a bedroom (the rec room will always reveal either stairs, a ladder, or some other means of ascending to the second floor in order to get to the bedroom). The rooms are all decorated with props and those windows are fake, so don't worry too much if your Pikachu breaks something on accident. The bedroom is also available for you to take a nap in to heal up once you have solved the puzzle or beaten its trainer!
The bedroom's passage will bring you to Jane's office, where she will congratulate you on solving her gym puzzles and flip a switch, which will drop a rope ladder down from the ceiling. Taking the lead, she'll bring the challenger up to the warehouse roof, where a battlefield has been set up, for your badge battle! Do keep in mind the day's weather as it will effect the fight - rain operates like Rain Dance, snow operates like Hail, hot and sunny days operate like Sunny Day, etc.
Counting the receptionist (who will battle trainers in the parlor if they cannot move forward), there are 6 trainers that can be battled before you reach Jane. The types of Pokemon they have can vary, because Jane wants you to expect the unexpected! They all make use of the Scope Lens.
Challengers who complete the puzzles but happen to lose their battle with Jane are given a special card, which they can turn in after at least one week has passed to come back and battle again without having to go through the puzzle rooms - unless they want to.
Any trainers trying to game the system and claim to be a potential client to get to Jane's office the easy way will be congratulated on their ingenuity, and then pied in the face. You'll have to come back another day and request a challenge properly, I'm afraid!
Challenges will be judged as follows:
OOCly, I will roll a D6 to determine if your character solves each room's puzzle or not. A 1 will result in facing a gym trainer. 2-5 will get you a straight solution, and a 6 will not only get you a solution, but the option to face the room's gym trainer if you so wish. Please indicate if you would like an optional battle in your challenge! Held items are permitted in all battles, while Mega Evolution is only permitted when battling Jane.
REWARDS: • The Cluedo Badge - It looks (and fuctions) like a tie clip! The clip part is gold with six small blue inlaid crystals, and the top part where a bauble might be is actually a small magnifying glass, about the size and rough outline of a thumbprint! You can in fact use this as a tiny magnifying glass.
• P20,000 • A Scope Lens Use the form below in a comment to this post to issue your challenge!
Name: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd | nastyboy Challenge Level: Regular Team:Team Baby of Joanna Nod the Frosmoth, Gabby the Miltank, and Gwin the Altaria Battle Details: On one hand, Dimitri isn't entirely sure if he'll win, because he trusts Jane's expertise as an Aurora League member! So a part of him is just doing this battle as an additional gift to Claude, so that his boyfriend can see Jane's tactics in action.
On the other hand, that's no reason to not try his best. Especially when two of their children are competing!!
So first up against Ribbon the Mimikyu is Joanna Nod the Frosmoth. Joanna is at a bit of a disadvantage here, with the level difference and all, but that's why Dimitri is going to do his best to be smart here. It's why he immediately opens up with a Hail up on the rooftop. It's a nice hot day, so hey - the chill might even be appreciated! Just, you know, not by Ribbon as it smacks into her. Dimitri then has Joana set up a defensive measure to help keep her slightly more protected - Tail Wind so that Joana can keep in the exchange.
With that hopefully set up with no complications, Joanna sets off her first proper offensive move: Stun Spore! Bug type moves might not do much against a Mimikyu, but even a paralyze is something! That hopefully gives Joanna time to set up her Aurora Veil as a defensive Just In Case, and perhaps leaves Ribbons vulnerable to the following move, a nasty Blizzard. Hopefully Joanna can survive the fight like this and a few more follow up attacks, even with the level disadvantage.
If not, Gabby has a few non-Normal moves that can hopefully finish off the battle - and ideally when Hail has ended. Dimitri hopes he can finish things with Joanna for the first round, however.
That's because, up against Hughie the Zoroark, it's Gabby the Miltank's turn - with a level advantage, different than Joanna! And she just.... promptly gets too excited at Baby's First Gym Battle to hear what Dimitri is telling her, and goes straight into a Rollout. Very fittingly, the first Gym Battle she ever saw was Dimitri's match against Whitney here in Goldenrod, so, like.... Listen. She Has To.
Dimitri surrenders to this because he is Weak To His Children, and lets the whole Rollout go through... Not like he could stop it. Assuming that both Gabby and Hughie are left standing after all that, Dimitri's voice finally manages to break through to Gabby, and she tops off with Milk Drink. Next is a Thunderwave, followed up by a simple Rock Smash. Dimitri hopes that does it for her, or at least with a few more attacks!
Win or lose, Dimitri picks up his precious daughter and holds her out to her other father, so that Claude can tell her what a good girl she is and how good she did in her first gym battle. This is vitally important and cannot be stopped.
And then, finishing up in the match by going against Todd the Thievul... It's Gwin the Altaria! And not just a regular Altaria... Instead, a Mega Altaria, with Dimitri putting his Johto League win to good use already! It's the first time it's going to use in a proper battle like this.
There's no point in holding back when it comes to this, of course. So Dimitri and Gwin start off strong, going straight for a Moon Blast! So long as it hits, that ought to be a pretty serious first blow, and they won't stop there. It's all about the offense here, which is what Gwin and Dimitri do best. Dragon Breath, Ice Beam - all that and more.
What's the point of a Mega Form if you don't just go hog wild with it?
Also regardless of the result here, Dimitri will also pick up Gwin to be presented to Daddy Claude. No, Dimitri does not care how big or heavy Gwin is. No, he does not care if he is getting a face full of cloud feather. Gwin must have his head pat and told he is Good Boy who does Good Battle.
Dimitri has no back ups here, just these three, and he regrets nothing.
Optional Battles: Dimitri is always down for a good scrap, he has no self preservation! Memes:
And so Dimitri is Jane's first ever challenger! She's nervous but this is gonna be fun! This is supposed to be a fun thing for a birthday oh lordy she hopes she can be a challenge. Not gonna lie, if he ever wants to come through again and challenge her for the fun of it, she will insist he bring all his rats. She wants to see them in action in real life.
Joanna does squeak by the first round against Ribbon - considering she's still not super used to battling, the bombardment of status-effecting moves is exactly what's needed to trip up this Mimikyu, though she doesn't go down without putting up one heck of a fight. It's a good thing Dimitri is switching off afterwards.
Hughie is...very bowled over by Gabby's enthusiasm. Quite literally. The increasing potency of Rollout can be a tricky thing to overcome, and he hasn't seen battles against Whitney, though perhaps now Jane will make that required learning amongst her battlers. Thunderwave is a great way to clinch in a status effect, and Rock Smash has a 50% chance of lowering the target's Defense, which combined with the level advantage and type advantage, stacks that damage in Dimitri's favor. Hughie goes down, but he's happy about it. You lads have a good daughter.
The fact that Todd is going up against Gwin as a Mega Altaria really clinches it. That Moonblast? Ooph, that's a nasty hit. Sometimes a type advantage really can knock your opponent for a loop. Still, he's certainly going to make Gwin work for that win, and when he does go down? No regrets. That was a good fight.
Name: Princess Allura | heartofalioness Challenge Level: Regular Team:Chunella the Dedenne, Oriande the Gardevoir, and Juna the Florges Battle Details: Allura will wait a bit after the Braviary craziness to give herself, Jane, and everyone else and their teams a chance to recover because *lord* they earned it last week. Allura will also be taking Keith with her for the Escape Room (hope you don't mind this doubling as a date for them, Jane~)
First up, Ribbon’s opponent will be Chunella. This match-up might seem rough on paper, given they’re neutral to each other’s Typing and Chunella is squishy against the Mimikyu’s more physical moveset while Ribbon has a higher special defense, but Allura is counting on the Dedenne’s speed advantage to gain and keep the momentum of the battle. First off, Thunder Wave to slow Ribbon down even more and hopefully cut down the number of attacks it can land, then blast with Charge Beam and Thunder from a distance. If the paralysis wears off and/or Ribbon lands a hit anyway, Chunella will counter with Nuzzle to paralyze again so she can get away, and Parabolic Charge will help keep her healed until the round is over.
For Hughie, Allura will bring out Oriande. Given that Allura just caught a Litleo during the Braviary incident, if the Zoroark uses its Illusion ability, it’ll come out as a cute little lion cub. … And get met with an Aura Sphere from the Gardevoir (thanks, Legends), which is just as super-effective against Dark as it is Normal, sooo have fun with that, Hughie. After the Illusion drops, Allura will have Oriande focus on Fairy moves like Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam from a distance since Hughie is immune to Psychic and a much more physical attacker than the Gardevoir, and she’s a touch under-leveled. If Hughie does get in close enough to land a hit, Oriande will counter with Draining Kiss, and she has Life Dew to help keep herself healed until the Zoroark drops.
Last but not least, Juna versus Todd! The Garden Pokémon will have to be careful because again, squishy vs physical hitter, but the more even levels and the Type advantage should definitely help. Juna will start off with Lucky Chant to protect her from critical hits for five moves, and just like before, attack from a distance with Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam. Unlike the others, she doesn’t have any immediate healing moves beyond Aromatherapy for status effects, so whenever she gets a chance Juna will also make a Wish in order to heal on the next turn. Optional Battles: Yes, please! Memes:
Okay first off, I am #10 Allura like, 99% of the time, that face is a mood.
But I have kept you waiting way too long! It's gym challenge time, and the rolls are as follows:
So to clarify: Allura has solved the Parlor, Kitchen, and Dining Room puzzles! She did not solve the Study puzzle, and Lass Yusra puts up a considerable challenge, but Allura is able to triumph, and Yursa is quite impressed! She wishes Allura and Keith well on their impromptu date after they leave.
Moving forward, Allura has solved the Rec Room and Bedroom puzzles, and gets to face Jane's regular team! She's a little confused that Allura's brought someone else with her, and will make it clear that Keith will have to complete the challenge on his own if he wants to battle her at any point, but once that's out of the way, they get down to business!
Chunella throws Ribbon for quite a loop with that shot to her speed - that and, frankly, a Dedenne being similar enough to a Pikachu really does catch the Mimikyu off guard, but she definitely hangs on as long as she can before Chunella knocks her out.
SO SINCE WE BOTH DOUBLE CHECKED let it be clarified, Hughie pops out looking like Todd the Thievul, but either way, being bombarded by Aura Sphere is no good for either of them. You best believe he's going to try and be as slippery as possible in order to reach Oriande and fight back. When he goes down, though - and he will go down, you can only take so many Fighting moves to the face - it won't be without wearing Oriande down considerably too.
Todd is going to be very confused against Juna. Why are you so far away? Why don't you meet him closer to fight? But the prevention of those critical hits and the onslaught of Fairy type attacks will be what clinches the win...
ALLURA HAS EARNED THE CLUEDO BADGE!
Enjoy your prize of badge, Scope Lens, and P20,000!
Name: Keith | tempredmental Challenge Level: Regular Team:Cluedo Team Battle Details: Keith will definitely be doing a run through on his own. Battle date is a battle date, after all, and, while ladies first, Allura accompanies Keith through as well so he can do his own version of the challenge.
For Mimikyu, Keith brings out his Doublade first. He'll make good use of Shadow Sneak and Iron Head to try gaining some headway against his opponent.
Against the Zoroark, he'll use his Rapidash. With Megahorn, she has a Bug move, and she'll also make use of Double Kick as needed.
When Thievul comes out, Keith will bring out Sirfetch'd, as he has Fury Cutter, Brick Break, and First Impression. Keith will save Final Gambit for if things get desperate. Optional Battles: Yes! Memes: Keith says, "What is a meme?"
Sorry for the late response! Real life ate me for a while but I am back! Sadly, I don't have physical dice where I am right now, so RNG rolls it is! Here's Keith's rolls:
So to clarify: Keith has solved the Parlor and Kitchen puzzles - the latter with such speed that Tallulah demands she battle him, unable to believe it with her own eyes! Unfortunately, that eagerness is what allows Keith to triumph over her in battle without a sweat...
...But that may have been a bit of a preemptive puzzle-busting situation, for the Dining Room and Study puzzles prove to be just a bit too tough to crack within the time limit. Raye and Yusra battle even harder to make up for Tallulah's loss, but Keith is surely determined enough to see his challenge through, and overcomes both challengers. There we go, back on track! The Rec Room and Bedroom puzzles are solved, and Keith can move forward to face Jane's Regular Team!
Doublade is definitely playing it risky, going Ghost against Ghost, and Ribbon the Mimikyu knows this. She's unafraid to go toe-to-toe with a Steel type so close to her in levels, and it's close, it's cutting it real close, but Doublade does indeed get the upper hand on Ribbon, even if it's probably going to want to sit the rest of the fight out to recover. Let it not be said that a Mimikyu doesn't give as good as it gets!
Hughie the Zoroark certainly isn't afraid of a Rapidash, and while if they were on a more even level he might be able to push through Megahorn without the STAB, the considerable level disparity between the two is what wins Rapidash the fight. Hughie just doesn't have the strength in him to push back a nearly lv100 Pokemon, though he certainly tried his best!
It's a very similar story for Todd the Thievul. A Sirfetch'd with about thirty levels of experience on him coming out of the gate with Fighting and Bug moves - and a STAB for the former no less - bring Todd to his knees very quickly...
